Rotary is a global network of over 46,000 local clubs with 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – in themselves, in communities, and across the globe. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects.
Rotary International (RI) marks the month of February as World Understanding Month. Since Rotary held its first meeting on Feb. 23, 1905, RI designates Feb. 23 as World Understanding and Peace Day. It is a time to concentrate on peace-building and conflict resolution.
Rotary estimates more than 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations and that half of those are children. Rotarians are asked to not accept conflict as a way of life. We encourage you to plant a Peace Pole to help build a Culture of Peace by working together in the community.
